Abstract

A hydrocarbon-utilizing yellow-orange bacterium AK-19 of the genus Arthrobacter isolated in this laboratory was grown on n-butanol and the concentration of total flavins in an aqueous extract was determined by the lumiflavin fluorescence method. Two of the flavins present were identified as riboflavin and flavin adenine dinucleotide by paper chromatography. The concentration of each flavin was measured separately and found to be 0.6 μg and 18.6 μg per gram of dry weight of organism, respectively. The absorption spectrum of the extracted flavin adenine dinucleotide was measured.
