The first year of an early years consultant network in colorectal surgery at the interface of mentorship and leadership

Abstract

The Early Years Consultant Network (EYCN) was created within the Association of Coloproctology of Great Britain and Ireland in order to help new colorectal consultants in their transition to consultant practice. EYCN aims to fill the training gap in leadership and provide mentorship for surgeons during their first five years of independent practice. During its inaugural year, EYCN worked at the interface of leadership and mentorship as the two seem intertwined.
