Abstract

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to report on Florida State University Libraries' program designed to bring information services directly to patrons in the Strozier Library without requiring them to physically come to a service desk.Design/methodology/approach – This paper is a simple program evaluation of ten months' worth of data from the students (phase one) and staff members (phase two) who walked the floors assisting patrons. Statistics taken at each phase by both groups were analyzed and compared for any noticeable discrepancies in number or type.Findings – Statistics taken during the first phase show this program to be a valuable asset to the library, and that it should be continued even if Strozier does not move in the direction of providing “deskless” services. The second phase did not garner as many questions and we are currently evaluating the data to determine if the repressive factor was the personnel differences, semester (time of year) or the service, and how we can improve the result...
