Abstract

This paper describes the first Spanish digital terrestrial TV project, called VIDITER (Video Digital Terrenal), oriented to the further introduction of digital terrestrial TV services in Spain. RETEVISION and the Spanish Administration have planned to introduce in Spain digital terrestrial TV at the earliest possible date within the 1997-98 window of opportunity, and in this regard they are combining their efforts, together with other Spanish organizations, in order to start experimental transmissions in the Madrid. The Spanish Administration is also at present working on the preparation of an appropriate regulatory framework for the introduction of those services in Spain. In this sense, RETEVISION and the Spanish Administration are jointly leading the so-called 8k Interest Group, which was established in Madrid.
