Abstract

So far only 11 cases of human infection with Dioctophyma renale have been reported from different parts of the world. Although animal infection with this parasite occurs in Iran, this is the first report of human infection in this country. The patient is a 28-year old housewife admitted to hospital because of fever and eosinophilia. In repeated examination the eggs of D. renale were found in the urine, and of Fasciola hepatica in the stool. Further clinical investigation such as renal angiography, and retrograde pyelography, has not revealed the location of the parasite.
