Abstract

The First International Congress of Systematic and Evolutionary Biology will be held under the auspices of the International Union of Biological Sciences at the University of Colorado, Boulder, from 4 August I973 to 12 August. Sponsored by the International Association for Plant Taxonomy and the Society of Systematic Zoology, the Congress is intended to provide a common meeting ground for botanists and zoologists interested in systematic and evolutionary biology. As specialists, each of us can contribute directly or indirectly to all areas of biology, and the time is now when the communication gap between botany and zoology must be closed. The major goals of the Congress, now and in the future, are to facilitate the dissemination of systematic and evolutionary biological knowledge, to stress the interrelationships of these disciplines with other sciences, to plan, work and administer projects for the advancement and utilization of knowledge in systematic and evolutionary biology, and to foster and encourage research in these areas of biology for the benefit of science and man-kind. In this way, the role of systematic and evolutionary biology can be strengthened and those members of the inaugural meeting in Boulder will shape the future of ICSEB as well as the science. Thus, the Steering Committee for ICSEB cordially invites you to participate in the first of a series of international gatherings of systematic and evolutionary biologists. Facilities for the Congress will be provided by the University of Colorado in Boulder. This beautiful city of 7o,ooo is situated at the foot of the Rocky Mountains, the gateway to the fabulous high mountain country of the western United States. Individual sessions will be held on the campus with accommodations available for all participants in University dormitories or city hotels and motels. Meals will be available in University dining halls.
