Abstract

We report Scarites sp. as the first fossil Coleoptera from Duho Formation in Korean Peninsula. It is characterized by rounded margins of pronotum, straight posterior part of compound eyes, overall oval shape from apex of head to thorax, lateral margins of elytra slightly rounded, and thick antenna cleaner on protibia. Until now, most terrestrial fossils with description from Duho Formation are plant fossils and only marine animal fossils were described. This insect is the first terrestrial animal fossil found in the Duho Formation, possibly the first accurate fossil representative of the genus Scarites.
