Abstract

Abstract This paper gives a review of the Doppler-free two-photon experiments performed since the beginning of the 1970s until the end of the 1990s. The Doppler-free two-photon method was first tested on the sodium atom, then used extensively to study the hydrogen atom and measure the Rydberg constant and the Lamb shifts.
