Abstract

This paper is concerned with the extrusion process of powder/metal composite clad rods. In this study, the finite-element model established in previous work was used to analyze the effects of various forming parameters, which included the extrusion ratio, the semi-die angle, the radius of the core and the material of the sleeve in extrusion processes. The finite-element results gave the consolidation condition, the stability of the powdered core and the maximum extrusion load for various forming parameters. Experiments were carried out, the results being in good agreement with the finite-element predictions. From the results of analysis, the effects of each forming parameter were determined.
