Abstract

Abstract The ultrastructure of the ventral mucous gland cells of Sabella penicillumL. is described. The cells have abundant granular endoplasmic reticulum, well-developed Golgi complex, and different secretory granules. At least three kinds of secretory granules are secreted, varying both in density and internal appearance. The cell apex has a ring of microvilli. Possible means of synthesis and secretion of the mucins are discussed in view of recent litterature.
