Abstract

In an attempt to profile the Filipino public relations practitioner, this research found that the average Philippine PR professional is about 46 years old; is most likely a senior professional or a professional manager if working in private industry, but would most probably be a staff professional in a government agency; possesses a college degree although not necessarily in public relations; and conceivably a member of either two of the existing professional societies in the country. The study also indicates that public relations in the Philippines is a relatively young industry composed of a small but growing group of practitioners. It is still male-dominated, western-like in its practices although there have been recent attempts to localize and be responsive to both industry needs as well as national development priorities, and is a largely urban phenomenon in both orientation and concentration.
