Abstract

The paper studies Dmytro Hnatyuk’s creative heritage with regard to the complex art and cultural factors that formed his personality as an outstanding opera singer, director, teacher, and public figure. Analysis of historical processes in the musical culture of Ukraine in the second half of the twentieth and early twenty-first century reveals the origins of modern artistic phenomena in the national spiritual space, the essence of art in the context of the general discourse of the humanities. The aim of the research is to consider the directing activity of Dmytro Hnatyuk in the context of socio-cultural dynamics of the late twentieth and early twenty-first centuries. His work as an actor, singer, and stage director truly embodies his aesthetic credo, which influenced the further development and promotion of national musical culture. The multifaceted phenomenon of Dmytro Hnatyuk’s creativity includes such concepts as a singer, actor, director, teacher. Theatre had a conceptual significance in the life of the artist: it was in the process of stage activity that he understood the aesthetic essence of opera singing and directing. Dmytro Hnatyuk’s directing activity covers a significant part of his creative biography and is a milestone in the context of artistic self-actualization and public, social, and pedagogical achievements. His directorial productions clearly trace the systemic continuity in the content of the works, in their conceptual comprehension; also, artistic drama and theatrical and artistic innovations are included. Today there is a need to identify the Ukrainian spiritual heritage, its essential and unique mental features. Dmytro Hnatyuk made a major contribution to the global recognition of Ukrainian opera by his stage productions marked with national uniqueness and identity.
