Abstract

The influence of the error of the determined critical frequency of layer F2 on the behavior of the short-wave field in the neighborhood of the caustic surface in a horizontally inhomogeneous radio channel is studied. For each fixed observation point, the characteristic function of the random field energy is constructed; this function makes it possible to obtain the field moments and estimate the probability of exceeding a given value of the field energy. In the limiting case of the horizontally homogeneous radio channel, the results coincide with those obtained by us earlier for the plane-layered ionosphere. The numerical simulation of statistic moments of the field energy for large and small values of the variance of the critical frequency of layer F2 of the ionospheric model is performed in the framework of the presented approach.
