Abstract

Abstract : The field experience of a military advisory medical civic action team in the Republic of Viet Nam has been presented. The team made 121 village visits and saw 20,079 patients. The frequency of the 10 most common diagnoses is tabulated, and it is pointed out that aside from helminthiasis, tropical diseases as a group were not a problem in the coastal areas. The frequency of use of medications is presented, and it seems apparent that a relatively short list of medicaments can cover nearly all the problems encountered in the field. The difficulties in achieving long term success in a civic action program are mentioned.
