Abstract
The breeding of new cultivars represents an essen tial factor in the development of horticulture. The rose remains one of the most impor tant and beloved flower species, being cultured on a large scale in the whole world and being consider ed the queen of flowers. At Fruit Research Station of Cluj, where the first activities regarding the b reeding of new cultivars were started 50 years ago by R. Palocsay and continued by dr. St. Wagner. The goal of the activity of breeding Floribunda and lanscaping (cover) roses is to create new, attracti vely coloured roses, with elongated buds, abundant and remontant flowering and with very good resistance to diseases and frost. In order to obtain new cultivars, as genitors more than 30 cultivars with good resistance to diseases and frost were used, as well as some of our own cultivars. At the Fruit Res earch Station of Cluj, in the years 2008-2010 the field behaviour of some new cultivars from the flor ibunda group bred at the station were studied, Cezara and Aurora, having in view the decorative va lue of the studied cultivars, their resistance to diseases and frost in the field, some morphological characteristics (the colour of the flowers, shape, flowering waves) and the way the cultivars are used in various situations.
