Abstract

The feminist movement in Latin America has had a visible, audacious and creative development. Nourished by hundreds of initiatives, by networks of themes and actions that interlink and unite the strength of women all over the continent it has, for the last fifteen years, displayed an immensely challenging social practice. Like all social practices, it is also ambiguous. Since 1981 there have been five Latin American and Caribbean Feminist Encounters - first held every two years and later every three - which have provided rich interchanges permitting us to devise joint strategies and explore national differences in an intellectual and social movement that is, quite possibly, the liveliest in Latin America.
