Abstract
Turning our attention right to the features, there are articles on HAGL lesions,1Shah A.A. Selesnick F.H. Case reports are of lower levels of evidence, and are rarely accepted by our journal now. What makes this report special? Three-year follow-up is interesting in a professional basketball player because athletes, in particular, test the functional return to the very activity that resulted in the initial trauma. Next is “Suture button suspensionplasty after arthroscopic hemitrapeziectomy for treatment of thumb carpometacarpal arthritis” by Cox et al.2Cox C.A. Zlotolow D.A. Yao J. Suture button suspensionplasty after arthroscopic hemitrapeziectomy for treatment of thumb carpometacarpal arthritis.Arthroscopy. 2010; 26: 1395-1403Abstract Full Text Full Text PDF PubMed Scopus (43) Google Scholar Read the report, watch the video, then ask yourself: would you have this operation on yourself if you had thumb arthritis? If you have a strong response, go online and submit a letter to the editor. We'd be very interested to hear what you have to say. This issue's 25th Anniversary monthly feature, Arthroscopy Classics Commentary, is by Associate Editor John Richmond.3Richmond J.C. Vascularity for healing of meniscus repairs by Henning et al.Arthroscopy. 2010; 26 ([Arthroscopy classics commentary]): 1368-1369Abstract Full Text Full Text PDF PubMed Scopus (7) Google Scholar He reviews meniscus repair as elucidated by Henning et al.4Henning C.E. Lynch M.A. Clark J.R. Vascularity for healing of meniscus repairs.Arthroscopy. 1987; 3: 13-18Abstract Full Text PDF PubMed Scopus (218) Google Scholar in 1987, a rather long time ago in the pages of your green journal. Our meniscus repair surgical techniques have evolved, but the Henning technique still remains an accepted standard for appropriate indications. Meniscus repair is classic. At the time of publication, was it radical? Combined Bankart and HAGL surgical stabilization sounds radically advanced. In the future will it be standard? Looking back, thumb CMC arthroscopy and suture button suspensionplasty sounds like a technical feat managed only by subspecialized small-joint arthroscopists. However, shoulder arthroscopy seemed a feat of technical mastery only a decade (or so) ago.5Ellman H. Arthroscopic subacromial decompression: Analysis of one- to three-year results.Arthroscopy. 1987; 3: 173-181Abstract Full Text PDF PubMed Scopus (471) Google Scholar, 6Oates K.M. Arthroscopic subacromial decompression: Analysis of one- to three-year results by Ellman.Arthroscopy. 2010; 26 ([Arthroscopy classics commentary]): 104Abstract Full Text Full Text PDF PubMed Scopus (2) Google Scholar And furthermore, knee meniscus arthroscopic treatment seemed a feat of unimagined technical wizardry only a few years before that. In conclusion, the possibilities of arthroscopic HAGL, thumb CMC, and meniscus repair are features worthy of notice.
