Abstract

The purpose of this study was to develop a design method for prosthesis with gradient porous tetrahedral structure, which combines the material optimization of continuum body in the macro level and the element size control of porous structure in the micro level. The internal density of the porous prosthesis can change with the structural stress and achieve the maximum porosity satisfying the strength and stiffness requirements. Compared with the regular porous structure, the optimum design can have a more uniform stress distribution, and the stiffness of the prosthesis is closer to the surrounding bone tissue.
