Summary

Introduction

The fasciocutaneous flap is very useful in the repair of soft tissue defects on the lower leg. Skin defects below the knee present difficult problems when combined with fractures, pseudarthrosis, osteitis, osteomyelitis and so forth. Muscle flaps or myocutaneous flaps have been used very successfully in reconstructions all over the body but present serious difficulties in the lower leg where the muscles are very thin and even with careful dissection adequate cover may be almost impossible to achieve.
