Abstract
Abstract The pure rotational spectrum of nitrogen dioxide was measured interferometrically from 45 to 104 cm−1 with a resolution of better than 0.10 cm−1. Magnetic splitting was observed on the spectrum, and accounting for this was crucial to the analysis. The spectrum was analyzed in terms of moments of inertia, magnetic fine structure, and centrifugal distortion. The values of the necessary parameters determined in the complete microwave analysis of NO2 were used to compute a spectrum in excellent agreement with the observed spectrum. Details of the calculations and the values of the parameters involved are provided.
