Gaustad, John E. ; Spitzer, Lyman, Jr. Abstract Equivalent widths of lines in the far ultraviolet (912-3000 A) are computed for a star of spectral class B2. The lines are found to be strongly concentrated toward the shorter wavelengths. Analysis of the blanketing effect produced by these lines indicates that the total stellar fux is reduced by 29 per cent as a result of line absorption, if the flux in the continuum is taken from a theoretical model by Saito and if the damping constant is assumed to be ten times the classical value. The possible existence of a clear "window" in the expected position of one of the interstellar molecular hydrogen lines is pointed out.
