Abstract

The far-infrared spectrum of methyl cyanide, CH 3CN, was recorded in the region between 7 and 60 cm −1 with an FT spectrometer. More than 1400 pure rotational transitions in the ground and in the v 8 = 1 states were measured and assigned up to J = 90 and J = 79, respectively. Simultaneous analyses of these measurements and of microwave and millimeter-wave data reported previously were performed. Improved values of the spectroscopic parameters in the ground and v 8 = 1 states were obtained. A few rotational transitions in the v 8 = 2 and v 4 = 1 vibrational states were also observed.
