Abstract

The Faculty of Veterinary Science at the University of Queensland (UQ) opened in 1936 with a first-year intake of seven students. The school closed in 1942 when a large proportion of staff and students left for war duty. It reopened in 1946 but offered only the first three years of the veterinary course; students completed fourth and fifth years at Sydney University until 1951, when the complete veterinary course was re-established at the University of Queensland. The veterinary school was located at the Animal Research Institute at Yeerongpilly until 1961, when it was relocated to the St Lucia campus.
