Abstract

Two separate factor analyses of the EPPS were reported, based upon scores of 160 male and 160 female undergraduates. A marked similarity exists between the factor structure obtained for the men and that obtained for the women. The five factors which emerged from each analysis are interpreted as representing the following groups of needs: (A) nInterpersonal Relationships; (B) nHostile Dependency; (C) hStatus; (D) nOrderly Structure; (E) nFreedom. These results are seen as having relevance for contemporary personality theory and as leading to more efficient theory, prediction and description.
