Abstract

Foster care is a necessary institution to protect some of this county’s most vulnerable children. However, it also often re-traumatizes children who have already undergone significant trauma. In this article, I will provide a synopsis of some current statistics about foster care and the experience of the foster care system. Furthermore, I will provide an overview of a handful of relevant grief theories and expend a call to those within the field to develop more unique grief theories and interventions for children in the foster care system.
