Abstract

Abstract The electrolytic growth of cobalt on both copper and nickel single crystals has been examined by reflection electron diffraction for both types of substrates and by electron microscopy in the case of nickel substrates. The f.c.c. →h.c.p. phase transition in cobalt has been studied and its dependence upon film thickness and solution pH is discussed. The relief of misfit in cobalt grown on {110} substrates is also considered.
