Abstract

Different theories have been expressed about the relationship between audience and artwork that include architecture as well. One of these theories which have been accepted by the art society to some extent expresses that in order for a work of art to be understood by the audience, the formation of a conversation between the two sides is necessary. This process would only happen under the condition of the e xistence of a common background to start a conversation. The conversation is followed by a circular process in which the audience adds to his knowledge based on his knowledge of an artwork. It is the occurrence of such a process that creates a sense of satisfaction in a person by their presence in an architectural space. Perhaps the reason of the popularity of traditional buildings with audience and the critical comments indicating dissatisfaction about contemporary buildings can be defined by the mentioned explanations. It's better to begin with the contemporary architecture. Overall it can be expressed that the dominant architectural trend of our country, Iran in the recent years has been either towards designing based on functional issues and focus on economic issues or influenced by the Western Architecture, which has a vague and strange expression. In neither case, the relationship between the audience and the artwork is formed. On the other hand in the traditional architecture of our land, the architect has built his work of art in line with the beliefs and culture of his time and the architecture has identity. It is the identity and spirit of time that has established a ground to start a conversation between the building and the resident as a common factor for both sides of the conversation. It is obvious that architecture will become meaningful in the presence of its residents. The following research is an interpretive research based on archival data that intends to assess the relationship between architecture and the world of Mysticism in the Age of Hafez and through his mystical poetry, the study aims to understand the Iranian mysticism, one of the common grounds among all ages in Iran and one of the constituent elements of Iranian identity. Through linking between the needs and circumstances of contemporary life a building can be designed which is consistent with the Iranian culture and in line with the technological progresses of our age.
