Abstract

Abstract The process of urbanization and rapid industrial development has led to ever-increasing amounts of environmental pollution, global warming, and climate change. Materials that can disrupt the natural ecosystem of land, water, and air are referred to as hazardous substances. The most common hazardous toxicants of the agroecosystem are heavy metals, radionuclides, synthetic organic matters, and pesticides. Increased concentrations of heavy metals represent highly toxic pollutants that, in case they get into the food chain, are accumulated in living beings, which carry a high risk to human and animal health. Heavy metals usually enter the food chain by consuming contaminated plants. Plants have an important role in the cycling of toxic elements ions in nature. They mainly enter the food chain through the plants grown on contaminated soil.
