Abstract

The extraction of ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid( EDTA;H 4Y) from aqueous solutions of different pH and total chloride ion concentration by a solution of Aliquat-336-chloride in 1,2-dichloroethane has been studied. The species H 3Y −, H 2Y 2−, HY 3− and Y 4− all partition with extraction constants, k n ex, of ca. 0.0003, 0.0014, 0.0022 and 0.00365 respectively. Addition of chloride, sulphate and phosphate ions decreases the percentage of EDTA extracted, the effect decreasing in the order ▪.
