Abstract

Abstract 102 Soil samples collected from arable soils in the Netherlands were analysed for zinc by various extraction methods. Two crops, viz. oats (Auena satiua L.) and freesias (Freesia hvbr.) were grown on the samples in pots and also anaylsed for zinc. Zinc in soil extracted with 1 N NH4 Ac of pH 7 gave the best correlation with the zinc content of the crops. Compared with data in literature more zinc was found in soils in the Netherlands than in some other countries. The average zinc value for glasshouse soils was higher than for outdoor soils.
