Abstract

The study aims to identify the extent to which the system of professionalism in achieving the development of the sense of belonging and the spirit of citizenship among football players in the Jordanian league and the extent to which the responses of the sample of the study vary according to the following variables (experience, player’s status). The research sample consisted of 85 players, the researcher used the analytical descriptive approach to suit this study, and the questionnaire including 22 paragraphs was used to collect data. The SPSS program was used to analyze the data. The researcher’s findings showed no statistically significant differences at the level of significance (α ≤ 05.0). The most important research result was the high level of professionalism in the Jordanian Manaseer League among football players. The sense of belonging and the spirit of citizenship among football players in the Manaseer League were at an average level. The professional system influenced positively the sense of belonging and values of citizenship among the athletes. Professionalism in feet attributable to the variables (experience, player status) showed no significant differences. The sense of belonging and the spirit of citizenship attributable to the variables (experience, the status of the player) showed no significant differences. One of the most essential recommendations is that the government should support sports activities, including the application of the system of professionalism, and put it on the agenda of the general budget in the interest of clubs and players. The research is highly relevant since professionalism in Jordanian football became a phenomenon to be stopped because it has attracted attention to the Jordanian sports scene despite the existence of cooperation from them and an understanding of the requirements and conditions of professionalism between the different pillars of the game, where there is still controversy between the institutions concerned with the game from the federation and clubs and others regarding the proper application of professionalism in Jordanian football.
