Abstract

As nursing students experience academic pressures, it may impede their learning ability. This basic qualitative study aimed to address self-care and the effect of academic stress on first-semester nursing students. Nine semi-structured interview questions prompted the student's self-care narratives. Following data analysis, four themes emerged; self-talk, self-management, physical outlets and activities, and social support. A need exists for associate-degree nurse educators to support student self-care.
