Abstract
• The experience of Indigenous nursing students was influenced by three factors titled, The Significance of Culture, Mystification and Same-Same. • There is a shortage of Indigenous nurses however, a cultural specific healthcare workforce is needed to improve health outcomes for Indigenous people. • Indigenous nursing academics strongly communicates to new students that successfully completing their studies is achievable. • The lack of preparedness and academic skills is not unique to Indigenous tertiary students as non-Indigenous may encounter the same experiences.
