Abstract

Sexual harassment is a kind of gender discrimination directed mainly at women, and implies the utilization of various kinds of gender-related provocations, encroachments and abuses, both physical and verbal, to cause women physiological or psychological trauma or tension. Sexual harassment is a social problem and a woman's problem of worldwide dimension, but has drawn general concern, especially among women, only since the values concepts of human and equality have been broadly accepted and applied in the domain of gender. In order to ascertain the state of existence of this problem in China and at the same time to examine the materialization and safeguarding of the gender rights of Chinese women, I have conducted a survey on sexual harassment from the end of 1992 to the first half of 1994.
