Abstract

By considering a sequential search strategy in the labor market, combined with an arrival process of offers over time, an explicit expression is derived for the stochastic process which describes the rate at which unemployed obtain acceptable offers and depart from the state of unemployment. For a given process which describes the entrance into unemployment, sufficient conditions are derived for the existence of a stationary distribution of unemployment.
