Abstract

On October 10th the exhibition of German drawings organized by the Federal Republic of Germany opened at the National Gallery of Art in Washington. The same exhibition will later be shown under the auspices of the Smithsonian Institution in Cleveland, Boston and San Francisco. For the student of art, whose knowledge of German drawings is apt to be limited to Durer, Holbein, and Kathe Kollwitz, the present exhibition is a revelation. Durer is still without a peer, but it is clear that there are a number of other German artists who can be ranked among the great draftsmen.
