Abstract

AbstractJust a few days ago, my article in this column was critical of the West. It was about the biased opinion in the West about the Chinese economy. Today my article is positive about the United States of America. The country is full of excitement as never before, at least since I came to the United States 61 years ago. Several days before Obama's inauguration on January 20, the television news channels covered almost nothing except the anticipation and preparation of the inauguration, aside from slight interruptions from the miracle that a skillful pilot saved all passengers on board an airplane with two malfunctioned jet engines, that had caught flying geese, by landing the plane on the Hudson River and from the truce gestures of the Israeli and Palestinian governments. There was the train ride on January 18 of the President-elect and Vice President-elect and their spouses from Philadelphia to Washington DC, the same ride that President-elect Abraham Lincoln had taken before his inauguration. There were stops on the way to meet with and speak to large crowds of well-wishing people…
