Abstract

The gamma decay of the excited states of 22Na below 4.40 MeV excitation was studied using the reaction 20Ne( 3He, pγ) 22Na at a 3He energy of 5.35 MeV. A gas target of spectroscopically pure neon gas was used. From these studies the branching ratios of gamma rays from states in 22Na were deduced. Proton-gamma angular correlations with the proton counter at zero degrees yielded the following spin assignments: J(1.528) = 3, 5,(2); J(2.211) = 1; J(2.566) = 1, 2, 3, and J(3.947) = 1. Some evidence is given for the existence of the second T = 1 state near 1.96 MeV.
