Abstract

The procedure of McCavert and Rudge (1970) is extended to the case of proton-helium collisions and applied to the problem of calculating excitation cross sections from the ground state to the 21P, 31P, 41P and 51P states. It is found that the method gives cross section results which are substantially in agreement with experimental data over a wide energy range. Polarization fractions are also calculated and, in common with other theoretical treatments, are found to disagree with experimental values.
