Abstract

The excess volumes VE of (tributylamine + diethyl ether or dipropyl ether or di-1-methylethyl ether or dibutyl ether or 1,1-dimethylethyl methyl ether or 1,1-dimethylpropyl methyl ether or tetrahydrofuran or tetrahydropyran or 1,4-dioxane) have been measured over the whole composition range at the temperature 298.15 K in order to investigate tributylamine-ether interactions. VEs for each of the mixtures studied are positive with the exception of (tributylamine + diethyl ether or dipropyl ether or + di-1-methylethyl ether or 1,1-dimethylethyl methyl ether). For straight-chain and branched-chain ether molecules ROR′, VEm increases with increasing chain length. For the cyclic ethers VEm increases in the sequence: c -CH2CH2OCH2CH2O >c -(CH2)4O >c -(CH2)5O.
