Abstract

A flow calorimeter has been designed for the direct determination of the excess enthalpy of gaseous mixtures at elevated pressures over a range of temperatures. The calorimeter was tested by determination of the excess enthalpy of mixtures of hydrogen and nitrogen, mixtures for which experimental results are available. New measurements were made on mixtures of nitrogen and carbon dioxide at 40 °C over the pressure range from 4 to 131 atm. The results were compared with predictions based on equations of state and the theory of corresponding states.
