Abstract

The term of General Teacher Standards is described as general knowledge, skills and attitudes required for carrying out teaching profession effectively. In order for identifying these standards, Ministry of Education in Turkey published “General Teacher Standards” firstly in 2006 and then “Special Subject Standards” in 2008. In these studies, it is stated that teacher standards will be a guide of the program developments for foundations that are educating pre-service teachers. Upon this saying, in this research, “Turkish Teachers' special subject standards” and “the course descriptions of the lectures related to subject and subject teaching in Turkish education undergraduate programs”  were studied in a comparative way in the scope of document analysis. By this research, it was concluded that the 48 % of the standards which are examined under the “Turkish Teachers' Standards” heading cannot be met by the lectures related to subject and subject teaching. Moreover, it was proved that subject teaching lectures (speaking, writing, listening, reading education, etc.) met the 43.7 % of the standards stated in the Turkish Teacher Standards, while subject lectures (grammar and literature) met 12 % of them.
