Abstract

Guide lines for the examination of saw marks are described. Using these the examiner can usually assess what type of saw has been used to make a mark together with many of the features of the saw blade. These include such things as the number of teeth per unit length, the set of the teeth, the manufacturer, the condition of the blade and/or teeth, and some information about the sawing action of the operator. A number of cases of this type are discussed.
