Abstract

The application of the theory of externally pressurized lubrication to the different types of power screws generally confronted with the complex nature of their flank surface geometry. To approach an exact solution for these types of machine elements, the thread flank surface should be replaced by an equivalent model of simple plain geometry. This work fulfils two objectives, the first is to establish and construct the most convenient equivalent model for the thread flank surface, and the second is to provide an exact solution for the performance of the power screw-nut system when externally pressurized.
