Abstract

Provides readers with a vivid description of Brooklyn Bridge Park as it is today, a brief summary of the major issues and events that are treated in the remainder of the book (including a brief profile of the major organizations and personalities in the Park movement), and a presentation of the features and innovations that distinguish Brooklyn Bridge Park from other contemporary urban parks. The chapter also examines Brooklyn Bridge Park in relation to the history of New York City and its great parks, and offers a history of the Brooklyn waterfront from the time of the Lenape to the present day.
