Abstract

Assuming that a radiative fluid is incompressible and has rather homogeneous physical conditions, we show that the evolution of the spectrum of the radiation field under viscous heating is described by an equation similar to that derived by Kompaneets. Since we include the effects of stimulated emission and keep the accuracy of the calculation to second order, we are able to consider the effect of the thermal motion as well as the effect of fluid motion on the radiation spectrum simultaneously.
