Abstract

The article reviews the evolution of scientific views on the human potential competitiveness. It focuses on the correlation of such basic concepts as labour potential, human resources, human capital, human development, labour power and their impact on the definition of the human being’s role in social and economic development. Research issues are related to the evolution of scientific views and concepts of creation and improving the competitiveness of human potential, which makes it possible to consider all approaches to the definition of basic concepts to determine the role of man in socio-economic development. Characteristically, in the present socio-economic studies the concept of human capital, which is understood as the valuation abilities, innate qualities, education, skills, professional knowledge and experience in the context of their ability to generate income, is the most widely used. However, some researchers emphasize the limited use of the concept of human capital in determining man's place in the economy. This is due to the fact that outside the definition of human capital there are a number of other human dimensions, such as talent, innate abilities, psychological characteristics, mentality, spirituality, social relations, etc.
