Abstract

Some have claimed that CSI and programs like it have influenced the decisions rendered by some American juries.They claim that this change is an effect of viewing such programs. Henry Jenkins (Fans, Bloggers, and Gamers) argues that media effects are involuntary and unconscious. In contrast to the “CSI effect,” he claims that meanings develop voluntarily and consciously. This article suggests that one way to blunt potential media effects is to enhance genre literacy.
