Abstract

QoS is the main challenge in wireless network. Enhanced Distributed Channel Access (EDCA) protocol supports QOS for real time application. Distributed Coordination Function (DCF) protocol is used in MAC layer. DCF protocol sends data based on time arrived while the EDCA protocol distribute the data between four classes based on data type. Real time application has higher priority with EDCA protocol. In this paper, the performance are evaluated for DCF and EDCA protocols when using video conferencing data. The Quality of Service (QOS) parameters are measured for video application by using OPNET simulation. The result shows that EDCA protocol support the real time application to achieve QOS. The End-to-End delay value and packet loss percentage are decreased with EDCA protocol.
