Abstract

The paper briefly reviews the results of the European Library & Information Science (US) curriculum development project reported in the e-book entitled European Curriculum Reflections on Library and Information Science Education (2005). Some evaluative comments are made on the findings produced by the twelve expert working groups each analysing a major US curriculum theme. This collective process was conducted with special reference to the Bologna Process. In describing project results, special attention is given to the sub-disciplines of library management and knowledge / information management. Also considered are the existing multilingual reality of Europe and the diversity of cultures and higher education systems in which European LIS programmes are embedded. Finally, some concluding comments are presented on possible European-level joint initiatives and collaborative projects.
